5 Tools from a Garden ...

Typical gardening tools are often a given. My list below includes 5 tools from a garden that might be a bit unexpected. I always have a rake, hoe, and trowel on hand, as well as the following 5 tools. Many garden supply stores carry the tools mentioned below.

5. A Gardener’s Multi-tool

Multi-tools have been popular for many years, but not all are usually geared towards gardening. One type of multi-tool has a bottle opener, sprinkler tool, flat screwdriver, ruler, weeder, pointed knife, serrated knife, pruning knife, and a set of pruners where most multi-tools have a pair of pliers.

4. A Wagon with Detachable Sides

Having a place to set plants that are waiting to be set in the ground is much easier than trying to haul everything around by hand. Using a wagon that has sides that come off gives you a place to sit down for a rest if need be. This type of wagon also makes a great flat bed for hauling bags of potting soil.

3. An English Weeding Fork

This type of weeding tool has two individual tines that extend past the thick wooden handle. It is very simple to use. All you have to do is poke the tines down in the dirt around the weed and give the handle a twist. The twisting of the handle uproots the weed and actually gets it by the root, instead of breaking it off at the top.

2. The Heated Hose

There’s no longer the need to worry about how you are going to water plants during the colder months. Some plants are sensitive to being doused with cold water. Special hoses are created for warming up the water before it gets to your plants. The heated hose makes the water the perfect temperature for plants.

1. The Turf Slitter

Starting a new flower bed can be difficult when there is nice swath of grass to fight with. The turf slitter enables you to easily remove turf to expose valuable dirt below. This will speed up the process of planting a new bed of flowers too. You won’t have to till the ground and then dig out the individual parts of plants and roots from a pile of dirt.

I enjoy learning about all the new tools that come out each year. There are so many new ones I’d love to have, but I have to tell my self they aren’t all necessary. If I gave in to every new garden tool I liked, my shed would be bursting at the seams! What garden tools have you come across that you don’t think you can live without?
