Among all the elite superfoods from across the world you hear about, there are also plenty of superfoods you can grow right in your own garden. If you think I’m kidding, I promise you it’s not too good to be true! The word, “superfood” simply refers to a food that holds special properties which can give your health an extra boost (or two) to maximize your nutritional gains. Sure those exotic, foreign berries we all adore are fabulous, but let’s not forget about many humble superfoods you can grow in your own garden too! Spring and summer are the perfect time, so plant a few of these superfoods you can grow in your garden, and don’t worry - they’re a cinch to care for!
Want a metabolism boost right outside your back door? Plant some bell peppers and hot chili peppers! Both are very high in metabolism boosting properties and vitamin C, and they make a killer pot of chili or batch of guacamole!
Cucumbers are especially high in water, chlorophyll, vitamin C, and potassium. They're easy to care for and also offer a large boost of silica, a mineral that enhances your skin, hair, and nails!
Blackberries actually rank higher in ORAC (antioxidant) values than blueberries, strawberries, or raspberries. They're also high in fiber, are low-glycemic, and are ideal for summer smoothies and morning bowls of oatmeal.
All of these superfoods can be potted inside or out in a small pot with drainage holes. Just be sure they get plenty of sunlight and also be sure you water them only when the soil becomes dry. The soil should stay moist but not drenched, and a mix of morning sunlight and afternoon shade is usually best for these superfoods. All of them are so enjoyable to use all summer long into the early fall. Do you plant any of these superfoods or have some or your own?
