The pleasure of planting and growing one’s own food is unique. Especially in these times of economic difficulties, more and more people are getting interested in growing their own food. Even if you don’t have a garden, you can still grow a number of plants in pots. Here is a list of garden plants I can easily grow in a pot.

1. Number of Herbs
Herbs are amongst the most basic garden plants I can easily grow in a pot. You too can choose from a variety of herbs like basil, rosemary, thyme, oregano, sage, chives and parsley. If you do not have too much space, you can even grow them all in one large sized pot.
2. Citrus Fruits
If you happen to live in a relatively cool climate, citrus fruits are a great option for plants to grow in a pot. You can easily grow lemons, oranges and limes as long as you ensure that the plants get ample sunlight during the day.
3. Tomatoes
Tomatoes seeds are typically grown in a pot before they are transferred to the ground. Instead of transferring them to the garden, I have found that they grow just as well in the pot. You will need to put a small stake in the pot or create a wire mesh as support for the plants.
4. Mushrooms
Mushrooms are also some of the garden plants I can easily grow in a pot. Just make sure that you choose varieties that are edible. You can easily plant different varieties in the same pot, if you do not have space for too many pots in the house.
5. Melons
Of course, it would be difficult to grow large sized melons in pots, but smaller varieties can be grown in the house. There is the Golden Midget melon, or the Jenny Lind melon, or even cantaloupes that you can consider growing in pots in the house.
6. Squash
Squashes are also great garden plants I can easily grow in a pot. Of course, you need slightly larger pots for these plants. I have found that a 5 gallon pot is quite sufficient. You can grow zucchini, summer variety of squashes as well as pumpkins and acorns in pots in the house.
7. Leafy Green Vegetables
There are a number of leafy greens that you can grow in pots in the house. Collard greens, kale, chard, lettuce and spinach grow swiftly and easily in pots in the house. They will need a lot of sunlight, though, and must be kept near windows that face the sun during the day.
These are just some of the garden plants I can easily grow in a pot. Of course, you will need to ensure that the soil has the right pH balance for the plant and that the plants get ample sunlight, sufficient air flow as well as adequate water. Also, make sure that the pot has proper water drainage, else the water will stagnate in the pot and destroy the plants.
