Repot Only if You Want the Plant to Grow Larger

Some people prefer to have their Ponytail Tree stay rather small, due to their tiny living space. If you want your plant to grow larger, then putting it in a spacious pot will encourage it to spread in girth.

Fertile Soil is Best

Cactus potting soil is the best type to use for your Ponytail Tree. This type of soil mixture allows for fast draining of water. To keep the soil as fertile as possible, feeding your plant each month with a liquid fertilizer will help. Be sure to dilute this fertilizer to half the potency and feed only during the spring and summer months.

Place in a Warm, Sunny Location

The average temperatures that the Ponytail Tree likes are between 65 and 75 degrees Fahrenheit. Seeing as they originate in Mexico, these plants definitely love the sunshine. They prefer anything from bright light to full sun.

2

Keep Leaves Clean

Cleaning the leaves of your plant will keep spider mites at bay. You don’t need anything fancy to clean each leaf. Simply spray each leaf with water and then wipe it off with a clean rag. This will not only keep the dust off, but it will make each leaf nice and shiny.

Don’t Overwater

People have a tendency to feel that all plants need lots of water. This isn’t true for the Ponytail Tree. It stores water in its base, which means it doesn’t need to be watered everyday. Keeping the soil a bit dryer than what most plants prefer is best. As a rule, watering your plant every 7 to 14 days is usually plenty.

This is actually a very easy plant to take care of and is rather slow growing. Due to its slow growth rate, you don’t have to worry about repotting it all the time. Do you find your Ponytail Tree easy to take care of? What do you like best about this plant?
